Kindle with front-lit display could be here by July

Amazon could begin selling a Kindle eReader with a front-lit display as early as July, according to reports. ?

A prototype of the monochrome device, which runs on E Ink’s display, was spotted in April and according to a source that has seen it, Amazon is preparing to release the final model. ?

A front-lit display has been on the wish list of eBook readers since it will enable them to use the device in dim-lit environments and even the dark. However, it’s feared that it could also have a detrimental effect on battery life. ?

“I do see demand for a front-lit Kindle,” said Jennifer Colegrove, who monitors trends in display technology in her role as vice-president of emerging display technologies at DisplaySearch. ?

“(However) front-lit will consume battery power and (it’ll) run out … quicker.” ?

It’s thought that a front-lit display will first be seen in a touch 3G and touch W-Fi version, with the increase in cost on previous Kindle readers to be marginal. Perhaps as little as $10.

Samsung launches new Windows Phone in the shape of the Omnia M

It’s not just about Android you know
Samsung Omnia M launched

Proving it still very much has its fingers in the Windows Phone pie, Samsung has unveiled the latest addition to its Omnia range.?

The Samsung Omnia M runs on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and sports a 4-inch Super AMOLED display and 1GHz processor.?

In terms of design, there’s nothing revolutionary here – it’s an impressive 10.5mm thick while Samsung has opted for a contoured back – but it’s under the bonnet where Samsung really hopes to conjure up the excitement.

Billed as a social multi-tasker the phone has been kitted out with some interactive apps including Samsung’s ChatON service. This enables users from any phone platform (be it Windows, Android, iOS or BlackBerry) to communicate with each other either individually or as a group.

Though it will need to be downloaded, the Samsung Omnia M also supports Family Story, which uses a cloud-based network to share messages, videos and photos on multiple Samsung devices.

Samsung AllShare is on board, allowing you to play any films, music and games you have downloaded on the Omnia M direct to a compatible TV, while the Music Hub’s Smart DJ feature creates playlists from your music collection depending on your mood.

In terms of Windows credentials, message and contacts from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Windows Live will automatically be synched into one outlet via Windows Phone’s People Hub, while the phone also comes with 25GB of free online storage with Windows Live SkyDrive.

Other specs of note include a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash (there’s also a front-facing VGA for video calling), Wi-Fi and HSDPA connectivity.

In terms of memory, there’s a somewhat measly 4GB of user memory and only 384MB RAM and just to rub salt in the wounds, there isn’t a microSD card slot either, as WP7 doesn’t support external memory.

Samsung says the Omnia M will initially be rolled in Europe before being shipped to other regions. No word on pricing yet.

HTC Desire C pictures and hands-on

Could sell like er, wildfire
HTC Desire C

The HTC Desire C is the newest addition to HTC’s 2012 line-up of Android devices, joining the HTC One series and seeing a diversion from what we thought was going to be a clean and simple approach to naming.

We can’t quite see the logic behind dragging the Desire name, once synonymous with HTC’s flagship devices, down to the entry level. But what can you do, eh? Perhaps we should be calling this the HTC Wildfire C or X, or something.

But let’s not let this brief moment of etymological confusion get in the way of our quick play with HTC’s latest smartphone.

The HTC Desire C is compact in the hand, measuring 107.2 x 60.6 x 11.95mm. It isn’t the skinniest of phones around, but it’s unlikely to offend anyone either. It nestles nicely into the palm of your hand and, thanks to the tactile finish, feels secure there too.

HTC Desire C

The layout of controls is totally conventional, with three touch buttons across the bottom of the display offering your standard Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich navigation: that’s back, home and recent apps.

The display measures 3.5-inches on the diagonal, so even though this is a diminutive device, there is actually a fair amount of room to play. The resolution of 320 x 480 is a little on the low side, so that will impact on some of the wow factor, but colours seem vibrant enough.

Launching on Android 4 and Sense 4, this phone is at least up to date, so you won’t be waiting for updates as soon as you take it out of the box. It is, however, very much about entry-level specs, with a 600MHz processor sitting under the hood.

The devices we played didn’t come with final build software, so we can’t determine exactly what the user experience will be like. It’s a low-power phone, with only 512MB RAM sitting in there with that processor, so we’ll have to examine this in our HTC Desire C review when we get the phone in our labs.

There is 4GB of internal memory, but you do get a slot for expansion, so you can bung in your own microSD card.

HTC Desire C

Harking back to the HTC HD Mini, slip off the back cover and you’ll find it finished in red, including a red 1230mAh battery. Okay, it’s a small detail, but such things appeal to us and we like the way the red coloured innards encircle the Micro-USB port on the left-hand side, hinting at that gory core.

Perhaps surprisingly, the HTC Desire C is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera, although video is limited to 640 x 480 capture. The devices we snapped are also NFC equipped, so you’re ready to roll with contactless payments and whatever else NFC finds its way into.

On the media front this is a Beats Audio device, so you’ll be able to enjoy your wubwub with meaty bass.

We’re looking forward to giving the HTC Desire C a proper plan very soon. We reckon this phone could sell like wildfire. Snark.

Stay mud free this summer
Spotify and Last.fm join forces for Kopparberg festival app

Kopparberg cider is introducing a new music app that means you can enjoy this summer’s musical festivities direct from your computer ?

The Kopparberg Festival Player utilises both Spotify and Last.fm to produce playlists of musical acts which will be playing at this year’s UK festivals, before being played via Facebook. ?

Through Last.fm, the app will provide a who’s who of festival performers this summer, from the headliners to relatively unknown acts. Users can then choose up to three artists before a playlist formed of their music is automatically created from Spotify’s library. ?

Any playlist you create will be posted on Kopparberg’s Facebook page so visitors can share and discover new music with each other as well as help them plan what festivals they should attend and who to see. ?

The Kopparberg Festival Player app will also give users a chance to win tickets to a host of UK festivals, including Field Day, Secret Garden Party and Reading & Leeds. ?

The Kopparberg Festival Player can be downloaded from the Kopparberg UK Facebook page from 16 May.

Apple working on a steering wheel remote for handsfree control of your car stereo

Handsfree track changing
Apple working on steering wheel remote

Apple has applied to the US Patent and Trademark Office to patent a steering wheel remote control that it’s working on.

Get caught playing around with your car stereo while driving and at best you’ll face a stern talking to from the boys in blue; at worst you could be looking at points on your licence.

Though many high-end vehicles have similar contraptions built-in, Apple’s steering wheel remote control will be attached manually and will remain wireless. We assume it will then pair with the car’s media system via Bluetooth or FM transmitter.?

Resembling the navigational click wheel found in Apple’s iPod collection, the device will attach to the top of the steering wheel at the ten to two position (remember your driving test?) depending on whether you’re right or left-handed.

You’ll then be able to skip or pause a track without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

Stars Without Stylists

by Claudine Zap

Blake Lively, stylist-free

They’re beautiful, fashionable, and always red-carpet-ready for their close-ups. But there’s one accessory these stars don’t have: a stylist. So they say.
Blake Lively, the “Gossip Girl” star, has become the poster child for going stylist-free.

What does this mean, exactly? The 24-year-old says fashion is her favorite hobby, so she prefers to go with her gut. “I just like whatever I’m feeling. Sometimes things are really beautiful, but they just don’t photograph well, and that’s that.” Yes, we all know that whenever an outfit doesn’t work, it’s the camera’s fault.

Still, the stylish TV show “Gossip Girl” seems to be doing for Lively’s fashion sense what “Sex and the City” did for Sarah Jessica Parker. Off set, Lively clearly loves to show up in designer duds, even if she doesn’t always hit the mark.

The blog Fashionista is doubtful of the Chanel spokesmodel’s claim, noting, “It doesn’t seem that Blake needs a stylist, because she has Eric Daman, ‘Gossip Girl’s’ costume designer, who clearly ‘helps her out’ for big events.”

Other stars who say they turn up at major events with a DIY look include January Jones, Diane Kruger, and the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley.

Certainly, there’s no shame in hiring a stylist. In fact, a celebrity stylist told the New York Times that it can be a game changer. Nicole Chavez, who has dressed Katherine Heigl and Scarlett Johansson, insisted that a good dress is a great career move: “People — casting agents, studio executives — stop and take notice. They are suddenly interested in working with you.”

Whether or not Lively has a stylist, directors are apparently interested in working with the up-and-coming actress. Her career is on the rise, along with her fashionably short hem: She is said to be starring in the upcoming Oliver Stone movie “Savages.”

Martin Luther King Jr. Speeches Move the Web

by Claudine Zap

Martin Luther King Jr., the slain civil rights leader, is honored with a federal holiday on Monday, January 16. Along with working to integrate the country’s buses, schools, and lunch counters through nonviolent protest, the reverend inspired with his words.

Searches on his most well-known speech, “I Have a Dream,” have surged in the last week.

The speech certainly deserves the recognition it receives: The talk was delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the 1963 March on Washington, and was considered a turning point in the civil rights movement.

The mesmerizing, repetitive “I Have a Dream” phrasing is recited in schools, echoed in churches, and quoted by politicians. It goes, in part, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Watch the “I Have a Dream” speech.

But King left behind a body of work — and possibly his second most popular speech: the legendary “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” has gained interest on the Web.  “Mountaintop” was delivered at the Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 3, 1968, the day before King was shot.

In a nod to the seminal work, Samuel L. Jackson recently took on the role of King in a Broadway play called “The Mountaintop,” which imagines King’s night before he died, after he has given the speech.

Many consider the words prophetic: “I’ve been to the mountaintop … I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land.”

Watch a clip of the speech here.

Who Is Saul Alinsky?

by Claudine Zap

Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrich, the Republican presidential candidate on a roll right now, has been invoking a little-known name in his criticism of President Obama: Saul Alinsky. As a result, the 20th-century community organizer has caused a surge of searches on the Web.

After winning the South Carolina GOP primary, Gingrich said in his victory speech, “The centerpiece of this campaign, I believe, is American exceptionalism versus the radicalism of Saul Alinsky.” Which seemed to have the effect of viewers nodding, then thinking, “Who?” On Yahoo!, lookups included: “who is Saul Alinsky,” “saul alinksy newt gingrich,” “saul alinsky obama,” and “saul alinsky rules for radicals” — the name of the activist’s book.

Alinsky has been dead for 40 years, and became known on campuses in the 1960s for his organizing tactics, along with a guide to the powerless (think the 99 percent) to grab control from those in power.

Born in 1909 in Chicago to Russian-immigrant parents, the writer is known as the founding father of community organizing. He worked his way through the University of Chicago, then got a job in the slums of Chicago as an organizer. Of his book, “Rules for Radicals,” Alinsky wrote: “‘The Prince’ was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. ‘Rules for Radicals’ is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away.”

If the Occupy Wall Street movement is aligned with Alinsky’s teachings, so is the tea party. Dick Simpson, a political scientist at the University of Chicago, told Bloomberg News, “The tea party has understood how to mobilize their anger and turn it to political results, which is the underlying motif of Alinsky.”

Saul Alinsky’s name came up in the last presidential campaign, when it was noted that Hillary Clinton, who was a candidate in the Democratic presidential primaries, had written her college thesis on the agitator back in 1969.

Other Republicans have sought to link Obama to Alinsky, since both were community organizers in Chicago. But, as CNN points out, Obama was just 10 when Alinsky died, and he has never publicly mentioned the man.

The organizer himself would certainly appreciate the storm of controversy his name has generated of late. He said it best himself: “First rule of change is controversy. You can’t get away from it for the simple reason all issues are controversial. Change means movement and movement means friction, and friction means heat, and heat means controversy.”

Dear Tomollica, Jason, Brian, & Stephen (et al):

As two early settlers of Buzztown (or as it was known then, “”Buzz Unincorporated Area””), we are proud of the way our little corner of the internet grew into a Buzztropolis. We’ll miss BOL because it is more than just simply a tech show.

BOL is a community with fellow settlers like Trip, Remy, and Fordo; it’s Earthlink Guy, Molly rants, Tom’s unappreciated segues, Tong’s dulcet tones, the Frappr map (what’s Frappr again?), Spectaclefest, Goobuntu babytalk, Computer Love, Into It/Not Into It, “”well, actually””, conversations with tech luminaries, and of course keeping abreast of the day’s news (snicker).

For 7 years, you’ve talked the two of us through countless otherwise mind-numbing hours in the car between NYC and Boston. You made us laugh, snarf our coffee, and occasionally even tear-up, but this is why we love BOL. No other show combined tech, heart, humor, analysis, and silliness so consistently.

We hope you know that BOL was something special and irreplaceable. Those of us who listen and watch feel lucky to have been a part of it.

Keep on buzzing (sniff),

Mo & Vij
The Boys from Boston”

———–

Hey all,

I was as disappointed as everyone else to hear BOL was to end after all these years, but most of all it’s because I consider the show to be the reason I got my big career break.

Many years ago in the early days of the show, Tom and Molly announced that CNET.com was hosting a competition for a tech fan to go to CES with CNET to do some backstage blogging from the show floor. I thought I might as well enter. To cut a long story short, my entry won me a place and I spent a few days writing and doing videos from the show. Because I was running a little technology site of my own at the time, I’d written a lot about consumer tech and ended up being asked onto CNET’s ‘Next Big Thing’ panel at CES, where I talked about the future of Blu-ray and other media. Someone from CNET UK was in the audience at the time and said I should get in touch back in England as they were looking to hire someone to review MP3 players and audio gadgets. I applied, and I think in part thanks to what I had the chance to do at CES, I got the job and moved to London a few weeks later.

Since then I had several roles at CNET, ending up as Senior Editor before being asked to take over the position as Editor of Wired.co.uk, where I’ve been for the last two years or so. I honestly believe that had I not been listening to BOL in those early days, I’d never have heard about the CES competition, never been seen by a CNET UK manager, and never got the early break I got as a result. I’m grateful to have been able to go full circle and guest on BOL a couple of times since then, and even more grateful for the 1,500 Buzz Out Louds I’ve never missed, and the resulting career they ultimately helped me develop.

Buzztown forever.

————

I’m sure there’s a ton of stuff going on today, so I’ll be brief…ish… ;)

I just wanted to say thank you for Buzz Out Loud. Thank you for keeping me informed, for making me laugh and for providing the opportunity to meet and become friends with a whole new group of awesome people that I’d likely never have met otherwise.

When I think back on the last 5 years, I realize that I stopped coming for the news probably 4 years ago. It was great and all, but the amazing part was the dynamic; this is why BOL is truly special in my opinion. Regardless of who was hosting or producing, your personalities just meshed and shined through and it was an absolute blast to listen to, then watch, then participate in.

First and foremost, I’m happy because you guys really seem excited about the new stuff coming down the pipe, and I can’t wait to see what it’ll be (I expect nothing but the best from you guys)… and I’m not going to “”miss”” anything because almost nothing is really going away; like I said before, your personalities make anything you touch awesome, so I’m not worried.

That being said, between you and me, my only tiny tiny concern is the fate of the BOL community: the chat room and the interactivity with you guys. I just hope there are some ideas out there to try and at least maintain if not further cultivate those relationships between fans and between fans and C|Net personalities. These things mean a good deal to me, and I’m guessing to many of your other loyal fans as well.

Anyway, the rude “”get off the stage”” music is starting to play…

Some more quick thanks:
Thanks for the swag: the coveted green t-shirt… the gray t-shirt… and the autographed t-shirt… the book on how to use OSX (Regular) Leopard (tho I’ve never owned a mac, lol. you da man, Jason ;) )… the many stickers… the two-way audio splitter… ooo and the dranks in NYC x2! Boom.
Thanks for all the shot outs, and congratulations (med school -> residency -> job. Aside: Molly, I finally bought a ring! ;) ).
Thanks for the memorable moments I’ll always keep with me (obvi too long to list here)

Favorite BOL moment:
So many, going to have to go with when you guys received the 1000th episode care package/t-shirt we made for y’all. That was the shit.

Also just a little funny FYI:
When I started listening to the show, it was on this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:3G_ipod_in_dock.jpg which, at the time, cost me as much as this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_new_iPad does now.
HA! Hilarious.

OK, OK…

Thanks again for all the great times and good luck moving forward! I’ll be watching! :)

Cake and Bourbon,
Love,
Dr. Karl

Dear Burp Out Loud customers!

It is with great regret, that we, the BOL Team, have to inform you that we are closing down our restaurant business indefinatly.
In the last six years, we matured from a little “”it won’t take longer than 5 minutes”” take away place, to a stylisch, modern and trendy restaurant, always serving you the latest & greatest meals while still giving them our own personal flavour.

But due to restructuring in our parent company we are moving on to new ventures. And even though there won’t be any freshly live cooked dishes anymore we would like to inform you that as of june 2012 we will be opening a series of vending machines throughout the country.
Although cold and prepackaged, all the snacks are still prepared by our top staff that you have come to know and love in the last couple of few years.
All the mashines will be operating on demand 24/7 and restocked weekly with new delicious and exciting meals, so that you always will have something to look forward to!

Thank you for your understanding!
yours sincerly

The Burp Out Loud Team!

p.s.:

Hi guys.
As you can see, I updated the BOL menu. There are loads of old and new dishes which all hopefully should bring back a happy memory or two. Even if you don’t have time to show this in the final episode I thought you guys could maybe tweet about it, post it in the show notes or make it in some form available to all the BuzzOutLoud fans out there (feel free to repost the Dropbox link).
It should serve as a very small memento of what we all went through together over the last few years (or at least as long as I was able to remember back ^^)
(Someone must really be a TRUE fan to understand every single little joke and innuendo, but I’ve also included a small glossary for people who maybe haven’t seen every episode of the webs best podcast :-) )

Finally, I want to say THANKS to the whole crew including Veronica, Tom, Jason, Benito and everyone I forgot. You guys really created something great that gave me and so many others something to look forward to every single day.
Thank you so much and good luck on all of your future endeavours!

XOXO
Jerry from Austria

Hey Buzz Crew,
It is extremely sad that Buzz Out Loud will come to an end. It had a
wonderful run. Before you guys sign off for the last time, I have two
dying wishes that I hope you can fulfill:

Wish Number 1: Please take and post a group photo of all the official hosts and producers of Buzz Out Load. It shall be a great piece of human history.

Wish Number 2: Have a Buzz Out Loud theme song remix duel between Jason and Stephen!!! I’m sure it will be *awesomeeee*!

————-

To the Buzz Crew and ex-Buzz Crew, may you all continue producing great shows and content.
To Buzz out Loud, rest in peace. You’ll be missed dearly. *tears* :’(

For one last time…… love, the, show.
Wan from Johore, Malaysia. Fan of the show since the numberless episodes.

Dear Buzz Crew – Past, Present, & Future – Hey, J.J. Abrams successfully rebooted Star Trek:

I am proud to say I have been a loyal listener/subscriber/viewer/live streamer since Molly and Tom sounded like they were huddled around a small voice recorder and long before Veronica ever spoke – much less fired Jason. Through your passion and commitment, I have been informed, enlightened, enraged, entertained, and sometimes heartbroken (James Kim); however, the one thing I will always be is grateful. All of you can never know all the lives you touched and changed – I wanted to let you know you did both. Much success to you all in the future – until then:

Dear Buzz Crew, all of you,

As I look back on all of the joy, and knowledge, and laughs that BOL has given me over many years, it would be easy to feel above everything else a sense of sadness, and I know that is the first reaction that has come forth from many members of this community.

But when I look back over the years, I see all of the different ways BOL, in all of its different forms, has shaped my life over these years together. And from that, I see optimism for all that is to come from our hosts and our community, and I a reminded of a powerful quotation from Charles Du Bos:

“”The important thing is this: to be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become. “”

Good luck in what will come, and remember the words of John Keats to remember what has been:

A thing of beauty is a joy forever;
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet dreaming.

All the best,
Nick from MT

Each night I download six tech podcasts, four news podcasts, and seven
political talk-show podcasts for the next day’s commute — but each day I
actually listen to one: Buzz Out Loud. Because your podcast is of
indeterminate length, sometimes I check out one of the others afterward.

BOL murdered my commute!
You left my commute on life support when you went weekly; now you’ve
driven a stake through its heart. My commute is dead. I hope it
doesn’t come back as a flesh-eating zombie and take revenge on the BOL
crew…
Good luck, I’ll miss the whole gang.

Hello Steve

I wanted to drop a note and say Thank you to Brian, Molly, and yourself
for working on a great show. The ending of the show will be greatly
mourned by myself and its many fans. The mix of interesting topics and
great personalities has been a welcome reprieve for me during the
workday for a long period of time. Good luck on your future endeavors.
Perhaps though we can have a new show of just computer love.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! It’s happened again! Anytime I start to lag on listening to a podcast,
they decide to end! So, I’ve gotten super busy at work, and haven’t had
as much time to listen to podcasts lately. So I’ve gotten pretty
backed up on back episodes of BOL. Over the past week I’ve been able to
catch up, only to find out that the show is ending! I’m sorry BOL,
it’s all my fault! This has happened to me before, with shows like the
Mailbag, Today in Tech History, Gadgettes, and many other non-CNET
shows. Even back in the day, when I was a wee lad, I stopped watching
the CNET TV shows, and BAM!, Ryan Seacrest left. I promise to try and
watch/listen more in the future. I feel so bad when I destroy the
things I love. In all seriousness, congratulations on the great
opportunities, thank you for the great content over the years, and good
luck.

Thanks,
David

Dear Buzz Crew,

I’ve been listening to BOL
since high school, even before Veronica started speaking on the show. I
just wanted to thank each and every host of Buzz Out Loud, past or
present, for helping me find my passion and engaging me with brilliant
analysis of tech news.
Buzz Out Loud helped me
pick journalism as my major in college, educated me throughout college,
and you all continue to inspire me every day. If it weren’t for you
guys, I wouldn’t be writing software reviews and blogging about tech for
my job.
You guys have helped shape my life. As hyperbolic as that sounds, it’s true and I will miss Buzz Out Loud, and every one of its hosts dearly.
I look forward to your new projects. Keep doing what you love and I’ll keep watching.
You loyal listener,–Lewis Leong

Hello Molly, Brian, Steven, and the gang!
My name is Reyna, 21 years old, from East Los Angeles, California. I’ve never
emailed or called in, but I just wanted to thank you guys for providing
hours upon hours of amazing content for me on my commute to and from
school. I actually discovered you guys through Andrew Sims of
MuggleCast, a podcast for a Harry Potter fansite. When you guys went
weekly, it was also around the time that MuggleCast switched to monthly
shows and I’ve been at a loss for good podcasts since. I think it’s
about time I make use of all those Audible.com offers every podcast
seems to make. (What’s that code for a free audiobook, again?)

———

Molly, you are an inspiration to myself and so many young women seeking careers in journalism and digital media.
Brian, you make me rofl.
Steven, thanks for making CNET content the best it can be. Stop being so good at your job!

I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and look forward to seeing what new and wonderful content you have to offer.

Don’t forget to be awesome, Reyna Villa

Hello I’m 14 years old so right now I’m being shaped into the man I will
become and I want to thank Steven for being one of the people to do
that. Over the last year without knowing it Steven has been influencing
me. Teaching me to do my very best, bring new things to the table and
keep an element of surprise. So I say thank you to a man the taut me
things that will stay with me for the rest of my life and didn’t even
know it.
Dane for Duluth, MN.
Oh and if you ever need any help with anything:CG rendering, audio editing, coding, hardware, software whatever, just ask.”

Hey Buzz crew,

After all the years and episodes I’m surprised nobody has ever said it — so I will.

Love the show.

Sony adds 15 and 17-inch displays to its VAIO E Series range

Bigger is beautiful

Sony has added a few extra inches to its VAIO E Series range with a 15.5 and 17.3-inch display models.

Following in the footsteps of the Sony VAIO E Series 14, both laptops feature the same “wrap-around” design while the 15-inch model sports a VAIO Display and the 17-inch model ups the game with a VAIO DISPLAY Plus Full HD screen.

Sony’s bundled in the hand gesture control as seen in the E Series 14 that allows users to control their laptop by moving their hands in front of the HD web camera that’s powered by “Exmor for PC”.

Both come with Intel processors, a backlit keyboard and Sony’s Rapid Wake + Eco facility that enables you to close the lid of your VAIO E Series laptop, which will in turn keep all your data and start position secure for up to ten days.

The larger model also comes up trumps with a built-in Blu-ray Disc player, while both have the facility to charge you smartphone via the USB output even if the laptop is switched off or in sleep mode.

Both the Sony VAIO E Series 15 and 17 will be available from early June in white and black, while the 15-inch model will also come in silver. Pricing for either model is yet to be confirmed.
